SSSGL Local Playing Rules

          (October, 2019)

 

1)      Play “Ready Golf”.

 

2)      Golfers may play from any tee marker color or combination of marker colors.  There are no age requirements or restrictions.

 

3)      On the first tee only, a golfer may hit a second ball if he is unhappy with his first one.  He may then play the better of the two. (known as a “Breakfast Ball”)

 

4)      Putts within 24” of the hole may be conceded.  (known as a “Gimme”)

 

5)      In the fairway or rough the ball may be moved up to 6”, but no closer to the hole.

 

6)      If the ball lands among tree roots or in standing water it may be moved as far as necessary to avoid the problem, but no closer to the hole.

 

7)      If the ball goes out of bounds, drop within 2 club lengths of its exit point.  There is a 1 stroke penalty.

 

8)      If the ball is lost in cut grass or leaves adjacent to the fairway, drop a ball in the area where it is believed to be lost.  There is NO penalty.  (known as a “Gallery Ball”)

 

9)      If the ball goes into a water hazard, drop a ball on the other side of the hazard.  There is a 1 stroke penalty.

 

Exception:  Chenoweth #5, tee shot into the pond (lateral water) – The golfer may advance and drop anywhere, in the rough or fairway, on the west (tee) side of the pond.  There is a 1 stroke penalty.  If the next shot also goes into the pond, drop on the other side of the pond with no additional penalty.

 

10)  Lift and clean and/or replace the ball anytime, anywhere except in a sand trap.

 

11)  Sand traps that are in poor condition may be considered as ground under repair.

 

12)  The maximum stroke count on any hole is 3 over par (triple bogey). 

 

13)  If play is cancelled due to inclement weather, players who are present at the course may record an “x” on the score sheet.  These players will get credit for the day’s play toward meeting the required minimum number of Association golf rounds.
